Ingredients
- 2–3 tablespoons fresh ginger root, sliced
- 1 tablespoon dried peppermint leaves
- 1 tablespoon dried chamomile flowers
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, lightly crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon dried licorice root pieces
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder (optional)
- 3–4 cups filtered water
- 1/2 to 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
- 1–2 teaspoons raw honey or maple syrup per cup (optional)
Instructions
- Peel and slice fresh ginger root into thin strips approximately 1/8-inch thick to increase surface area for steeping.
- Lightly crush fennel seeds using a mortar and pestle to break open the seed coating, enhancing extraction.
- Measure out all dried herbs and place them in a small bowl for easy access during brewing.
- Fill a kettle with filtered water and heat until steam rises actively, reaching approximately 200-210°F.
- Add sliced ginger to a clean teapot or infuser, pour the heated water over the ginger, and let it steep for 3-4 minutes.
- Add dried peppermint, chamomile flowers, crushed fennel seeds, licorice root, and turmeric powder to the pot with ginger, stir gently, cover, and steep for 10-12 minutes.
- Strain the tummy tea recipe through a fine mesh strainer into cups, pressing gently on the herbs to extract maximum beneficial compounds.
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice into each cup and stir in raw honey or maple syrup if desired, then serve immediately while warm.
Notes
Use fresh ginger within your tummy tea recipe rather than powdered whenever possible for superior digestive effectiveness. Don’t skip the initial 3-4 minute ginger-only steep to avoid over-steeping delicate herbs. Keep your tea brewing temperature between 200-210°F rather than boiling. Store dried herbs in airtight containers away from light and heat.
