- 1–2 teaspoons premium matcha powder
- 2–3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- Pinch to 1/8 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- 8–10 ounces hot water, 160-170°F
- 1 teaspoon honey, agave nectar, or maple syrup, optional
- 2–4 ounces milk or milk alternative, optional
Instructions
- Heat water to 160-170°F.
- Measure the matcha powder into a small bowl or matcha whisk bowl.
- Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice to your serving cup.
- Pour 2-3 ounces of heated water into the matcha powder.
- Whisk vigorously in an M or W pattern for 30-45 seconds until smooth and foamy.
- Slowly add the remaining hot water while continuing to whisk.
- Add freshly cracked black pepper to the whisked matcha.
- Pour the matcha mixture into the serving cup with lemon juice.
- Stir gently to combine evenly.
- Add optional sweetener and stir until dissolved.
- Add optional milk or milk alternative for a creamier version.
- Serve immediately while warm and foamy.
Notes
Use ceremonial-grade matcha and freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor. Avoid boiling water because it can make the matcha bitter. Start with a tiny pinch of black pepper, then adjust to taste.
